WHO (World Health Organization) has announced COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic on 11 March 2020, because corona infection was spreading rapidly throughout the world. The Coronavirus outbreak came to light on 19 December 2019, when China informed WHO about some mysterious cases of common cough and cold which leads to death in Wuhan city in Hubei region. WHO has reported that in Wuhan more than 957,000 people died and over 30 million got infected.

What is Coronavirus?

The Corona is from the family of viruses that causes diseases related to respiratory tract in mammals and birds. These diseases can range from mild to severe. In cases of mild disease human has come common cough and cold, but in severe cases the human suffer with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS). The seventh Coronavirus has been names as COVID-19 or SARS-CoV-2. In cow’s and pig’s Coronavirus causes diarrhea and in mice it causes Hepatitis. There are no vaccine or drugs to treat or prevent this infection.

How COVID-19 transmitted?

The current information suggests that COVID-19 is transmitted between peoples through direct, infected objects or surfaces or close contact with infected person via mouth and nose secretion. The virus also spreads through inhaling droplets which are released by infected person via speaking, coughing or sneezing. When an infected person sneezes or coughs the droplets contaminate the surfaces. Other person get infected by touching those surfaces and then touches their eyes, nose or mouth.

What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

If a person comes in contact with an infected person there are chances that he can also get infected by coronavirus. The incubation period of COVID-19 varies from 2 to 14 days. If you are infected, you will show symptoms mostly till 14th day after coming in contact with an infected person. The research in China shows most common symptoms among people hospitalized with COVID-19 are fever, dry cough, fatigue, body ache, shortness in breathing. But after coronavirus spread through the world more symptoms appeared in patients like chills, sore throat, headache, loss of taste or smell, nausea and diarrhea, but there are mild symptoms. In severe conditions patients feel pressure or pain in chest, shortness in breathing and loss of speech. In severe conditions the patient must consult a doctor. But about 1 in 6 people have severe conditions. Most people get cured after mild symptoms and some don’t show any symptoms after getting infected.

How to prevent COVID-19?

Coronavirus spreads from person to person, through respiratory droplets, recent studies prove that some people have infection but don’t show any symptoms. Here are some tips that will help in prevention from COVID-19

·         Wash your hands on regular intervals for minimum 20 seconds with soap and water, especially after leaving public places, sneezing and coughing. If you are in a public you can use 60% alcohol based hand sanitizer. Rub your hands until your hand become dry. Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with non-sanitize hands.

·         Avoid contact with people when you are outside and maintain  at least 6 feet distance from others because there are so many people who have infection but don’t show any symptoms. If anybody gets infected in your house, quarantine full family at home and maintain distance from that family member.

·         Always use face masks in public places, it will help you to protect when social distancing can’t be maintain. By using mask you just don’t protect yourself you could prevent the spread of COVID-19 if you are infected. Those people who have difficulty in breathing and children less than 2 years should not wear mask.

·         Cover your face while coughing and sneezing and wash your hands after that with soap or apply hand sanitizer. 

·         Always clean your surrounding objects with disinfectants because these can be contaminated by an infected person. When you come home from public place always change your clothes and mask and clean them with disinfectant.

Affect of COVID -19 at global level

The COVID-19 pandemic is spreading very easily from person to person, therefore it has affected almost every country. Europe and North America saw their major cases in the month of April and in other countries cases are were increasing too. Earlier world has witnessed five more pandemic H1N1 in 2009, Ebola in 2014 (outbreak West Africa), Zika in 2016. According to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) damage due to COVID-19 is four times more than the 2009 global financial crisis. Government across the countries was decided to undergo complete lock down to restrict the further transmission, due to which there is a devastating impact on global economy. All the international and national transport services are suspended. In countries where COVID-19 cases are increasing all the educational, commercial sports and spiritual institutions are closed. Industries and small businesses are suffering a lot because of lockdown in several countries. People related to tourism ad transport industries are still suffering from unemployment because the transportation services are still closed. The production level has gone low in this pandemic period due to which people are suffering with mass unemployment. Economy of many countries is facing the threat of high inflation and unemployment as a result of low productivity and high expenditure on treatment and recovery of COVID-19 patients and their families.

How COVID-19 has affected lives of people

COVID-19 has affected the day to day life of people. This pandemic triggers thousands of lives who are affected and are still fighting from this virus. This disease affects the lives of people in many ways. After the sudden lockdown people suffered with many problems like they are not able to get daily supplies because maximum groceries stores are closed and only few are opened that too with time regularities from the government. As a result the cost of daily supplies is shooting up the poor people can’t afford and suffer the most at the early pandemic period. Many people lost their jobs because work are on hold due to which industries face crisis and are not able to pay their employs. This affect most of the families who work for lively hood and don’t have other source of income. The small businesses are affecting the most because they don’t have that much buffer for their business. Everyone was forced to stay at home, and all the public places were shut down. All the public and social gathering was not allowed and no one could meet their relatives and loved ones, people were facing depression and anxiety. But on the positive side holidays or lockdown helped people to spend time with their families and got a break from their hectic and busy lives. Almost every one explored their hobbies and tried to enhance. COVID-19 affected the education system which affected the future of the students. Due to pandemic education system got badly effected. All the exams got postponed this increased the mental stress in students. Schools started exploring technology and online classes got started, those students whose parents can’t afford internet and smart phones faced problem.

The CORVID-19 is still spreading all over the world. The only way to stop coronavirus is by adopting better health and socio-economic policies. To fight against this disease coordination is required from all countries.
